Dutch Grand Prix: Sprint & Qualifying Results and Reports - Ferrari

NEWS STORY
22/08/2026

Scuderia Ferrari HP's Saturday at the Dutch Grand Prix yielded nine points in the Sprint race, courtesy of a second place for Charles Leclerc and a seventh for Lewis Hamilton.

Later, qualifying delivered and all-red third row on the grid for tomorrow's Grand Prix, with the Englishman fifth, just ahead of his Monegasque team-mate.

The 24-lap (102 km) Sprint got underway at 12:00. Starting from third, Charles was the only driver among those at the front to opt for Soft tyres, a choice that would later prove effective. The Monegasque held his position at the start and, on lap 18, made the most of his SF-26's pace to close in on Lando Norris and pass him at Turn 1, moving into second place, which he held to the chequered flag. Lewis, who started seventh on Medium tyres, remained in the same position throughout the race, unable to find a way past Max Verstappen.

In the qualifying session both drivers progressed through Q1 on used Soft tyres, while in Q2 a single set of new Softs was sufficient to secure passage to the decisive phase, the team thus achieving its objective of saving a set of the softest compound for the race. Charles and Lewis reached Q3 each with two sets of new Softs available. During the final phase, the skies clouded over and the wind increased, making track conditions more tricky. Charles produced a good first attempt, while Lewis was unable to put together a strong lap. Both improved on their second set, with Lewis posting 1'11"494 and Charles 1'11"558, times good enough for fifth and sixth places respectively and a third-row start.

Tomorrow's Grand Prix should deliver a different scenario to today's shorter race. Over the 72 laps (306.5 km) strategy will come into play. As always at Zandvoort, the weather provides a variable that cannot be ruled out. This evening, the team will analyse the large amount of data gathered throughout the day, both during the Sprint, in which the two SF-26s ran different compounds, and from qualifying, with the aim of maximising tomorrow's result.

Lewis Hamilton: After the Sprint race, we made a few adjustments to improve the balance and find a better window for qualifying. The car felt more comfortable, although it was still a tricky session as getting the tyres to work as we wanted was our biggest challenge and made it difficult to put everything together.

We know there are still areas where we need to improve, but it's good to be in a position to fight further up the order. It was also important to rebuild some confidence in qualifying with a new setup, which is never straightforward. I'm grateful to everyone in the team for the work they continue to put into the car and I'm looking forward to what tomorrow can bring.

Charles Leclerc: We know how crucial qualifying was for this race so it's going to be a challenge to start from P6.

In the Sprint, our race pace was solid, and we took a risk starting on the Soft tyres that paid off in the end. It's a tough track to overtake on, and we took our chance at the right moment to gain a position.

We have a few things we have to review from our qualifying, but I don't think that pole was on the cards for us today. We'll have to maximise the start and see what we can do with our strategy to try and get ahead of our competitors.

Fred Vasseur: Our race pace was good this morning and one positive from qualifying is that we saved one set of Softs for tomorrow, which could be an advantage as we are the only team starting at the front to have done so. Clearly, P5 and P6 was not our target and we were expecting a better result after yesterday. We struggled through qualifying and I think everyone was really on the edge when it came to deciding whether or not to do a prep lap. We saw in the Sprint that it's difficult to overtake here, but tomorrow will be a different race, with strategy and pit stops playing a much bigger role. We expect to have good race pace and we'll prepare well, with the aim of moving up the field tomorrow.
